| Advanced Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese Language |
Provides teachers of the Japanese language with an opportunity to impove their language skills and teaching methodology, and to deepen their knowledge of Japan. Conducted in Urawa, Japan. The Japan Foundation covers the cost of tuition, accommodation and meals; however, from this year participants must bear the cost of their own round-trip air ticket.

| Short- and Long-Term Training Programs for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language |

| This programme is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad and/or individuals who have experience in teaching the Japanese language abroad, who are expected to be leaders of the academic world of Japanese language education in their own countries, with an opportunity to obtain a Master’s degree in Japanese language education. |

| Graduate Program on the Japanese Language and Culture (Doctor’s Course) |
| This programme is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad and/or individuals who have experience teaching the Japanese language in overseas Japanese language institutions, with an opportunity to complete a three-year doctoral course in Japanese language education, with the aim of developing them as future leaders of the academic world of Japanese language education in their own countries. Apart from the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute (JFJLI), the programme is being implemented in collaboration with the National Institute for the Japanese Language (NIJLA) and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) and is structured with an advanced and practical curriculum. |

TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR TEACHERS OF THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE
(Short Term, Long Term, Advanced) |
| I teach Japanese part-time - am I eligible to apply? |
| No. You should be teaching Japanese full-time at the time of application, and expect to continue teaching Japanese full-time next year. |
| I teach Japanese as a private tutor - am I eligible to apply? |
| No. You must be teaching Japanese at a recognised educational institution (school, university or college). |
| I am a native speaker of Japanese - am I eligible to apply? |
| No. These programmes are specifically tailored for non-native speakers of Japanese. As of this year, the Training Program for Japanese Abroad has been discontinued. |
| Do I have to have sat for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test? |
| No. The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is not a prerequisite for these programs, however it is used as a benchmark when determining applicants’ Japanese language ability. If you have never sat for the JLPT, you may be asked to complete the Japanese Language Proficiency Self-Check questionnaire and submit it with your application. |

| PROGRAM FOR THE DONATION OF JAPANESE LANGUAGE TEACHING MATERIALS |
| What happens to teaching materials donated under this program? |
| Donated materials become the property of the receiving school, university or college. Donated materials do not belong to any particular teacher or student. We recommend registering donated materials with the school library upon receipt. |
| I teach at more than one school - can all of my schools apply? |
| Yes. Teachers employed at more than one institution can apply on behalf of each institution at which they teach. |
| My school has received donations in the past - can I reapply this year? |
| Yes. Institutions may apply for this program every year, however institutions which have received donations in recent years may be given lower priority. |

| GRANT PROGRAM FOR JAPANESE-LANGUAGE COURSES ABROAD |
| I applied for this program last year and was successful. Can I apply for this program again? |
| Yes, but we generally offer assistance for a maximum of three years. |
| |
| JAPANESE SPEECH CONTEST SUPPORT PROGRAM |
| Can I apply for support for several speech contests that I want to hold? |
| No. You can only apply for support for one speech contest. |
| When will I know if I have been successful with my application? |
| April 2009. With that in mind, we recommend not holding your speech contest until after April. |
| Can I apply for this program every year? |
| Yes, you can. However, contests which have received support for more than ten years will be given lower priority by the Japan Foundation. |
